Mac 68040 machines

On this page we have (mostly) 68040-based Quadra, Centris and Performa systems, and cards and accessories for those models. Our PowerMac and "clones" section can be found on another Web page. Check this link for a guide between the various Quadra, LC, Centris and Performa systems. Many of them have the same CPU and "logic" (motherboard, system board) and case but were sold with different amounts of RAM or hard drive capacity. Want to compare processors and speeds? Quadra / Centris / Performa 68040 and 68030 systems:

Performa 550 LESS LOGIC/CPU card with integrated 14-inch color monitor (like picture on left). A few small dings on front above monitor. Cas has little fading/yellowing. With no hard drive, 2X speed CD-ROM (caddy included), floppy drive. OS 7.5.3. WITHOUT CPU/LOGIC CARD, $39 plus shipping. Shipping weight 45 lbs.

Mac LC 580, yellowed but working OK. See 550 system above for similar physical description. 32 megs RAM, 1Gb IDE HD. No CD drive, no CD slot on front. Integrated 14-inch color monitor, 68LC040 at 33MHz. (we might upgrade to 68040 chip, ask!) Video input and outputs. With OS 8, working floppy drive, network card in LC slot. Same machine as Performa 580, 588; similar in appearance to models such as the LC 550, 575, 576, 578 systems. Ask about price and availability. Shipping weight 45 lbs.

Mac Performa 475 68LC040 at 25MHz. 8MB RAM, no hard drive or floppy. LC type PDS slot. Looks much like an LC III case. $29 plus shipping, shipping weight 15 lbs.

Quadra 605 is the same as a Performa 475, is the same as a Performa 476.

Mac Quadra 605 in original box! The Q605 is in a LC-type case, and it has a 68LC04/25 processor and an LC-III PDS slot. The Apple packing box has a matching serial number to the Q605. Centris 610 is a system with a 68LC040 processor: shipping wt. 18 lbs.
Quadra 610 is the same as the Centris except with a 68040 processor.
Quadra or Centris 610 logic (motherboard, CPU board): $19 w/68LC040, $25 w/68040.

The 620 and 630 systems (630, 31, 635, 636, 637, 638, 640) use the same chassis (case) as the 6200 and 6300 series systems. They all have pull-out logic/CPU boards which are easily removed and replaced. Consider upgrading your 630, etc. system using one of the 6200 or 6300 series logics to a PowerPC! We have removed most of the 620 and 630 systems from our inventory or reduced them to parts. Parts, and some systems, available as below. If you don't see a part, ask!

638CD system with TV video cards. TV/NTSC video and TV tuner cards. Has CD drive, floppy drive. I will add a 500Mb IDE hard drive and system 7.5.3 software; you will have to add or set up any video software from Apple's site. The 630 series uses either the 68040 or 68LC040 processor. I'd offer this system as described for $79 plus shipping.

The TV tuner card for these systems is 820-549-A. Watch TV on your Mac! And I have the "Apple Video System" card (820-0567-A) for the A/V slot for video input and capture. Similar Apple Video System card are the S-video in/out (820-0737-01) and TV Tuner card (820-0549-A). Check on my Nubus and other cards Web page for prices and details.

Performa 630 logic card only, with 68LC040 at 33MHz $15; Quadra 630 logic card only, with 68040 at 33MHz $25.

Logic card or motherboard for 631, 635, 636, 638, 640: use either of the 630 cards above.

620 or 630 series power supply for $15 plus shipping.

Centris 650:, 68040 at 25MHz, at least 12MB RAM (1 SIMMS), Sys 7.1. will need hard drive and caddy style CD-ROM, these not included. As of Nov 2007, three available, slightly yellowed, with "caddy" style CD-ROM. $49 plus shipping, shipping weight 30 lbs. (Looks like IIvi in picture.) Centris 650 motherboard/CPU board only, $29 plus shipping.

Quadra 650:, 68040 at 33MHz, at least 12MB RAM (1 SIMMS). will need hard drive and caddy style CD-ROM, these not included. None available as of Nov 2007.

Quadra 700, 800, 900 series

Quadra 700, 68040 at 25 MHz. 2 NuBus Slots and 1 PDS Slot, Ethernet: AAUI-15. 2 ADB Ports, 2 serial ports. Sound out: stereo 8 bit. It looks like a IIci on its side, very cute. These systems use 30-pin DRAM, and up to 6 VRAM's, see the memory section for prices.

Quadra 700, with 4Mb RAM, no floppy or hard drive, $45 plus ship.
Ask about Quadra 700 motherboards.

Quadra 800: 68040 at 33MHZ, with 16MB RAM, no hard drive, no CD-ROM drive (blank panel). System 7 or better. shipping wt. 30 lbs. SOLD

Quadra 840AV audio/video system. 68040 at 40MHz, no hard drive, 16MB RAM, CD-ROM, System 7.5.3. Has S-video in and out, and video in/out. Also AAUI (Apple ethernet) built in, and a few NuBus slots. Sold 2005 but motherboards may be available. Shipping weight 30 lbs.

Quadra 950, 68040 system, very large tower case. I have a Quadra 950 with the PowerPC upgrade card, and 200MB of RAM, a good floppy, and with a clean install of System 7.5.3 on a small (few hundred MB) SCSI drive. The PowerPC card is 60MHz and works, I can boot with the card active or not active. The case is somewhat faded and scuffed, I'd say in fair to good condition. No CD-ROM drive or front "bezel" for it, no internal hard drive brackets. However, given the amount of RAM and the PowerPC card, and the motherboard and power supply, I consider this system worth at least $200 plus shipping. Shipping weight 50 lbs, so shipping costs will be signfigant, especially to West Coast buyers.
